A business strategy perspective on wildfire risk mitigation

WiRē research recently appeared in an article on wildfire risk mitigation from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania’s online business analysis journal, Knowledge@Wharton. The opinion piece, written by emeritus professor of decision sciences and public policy Howard Kunreuther and Wharton research analyst Erin St. Peter, cites three key findings from WiRē: that individuals tend to overestimate mitigation activity, Homeowners Association restrictions can hinder mitigation, and individuals are often not sure which mitigation activities to prioritize. The article combines research from several sources including WiRē to develop a series of questions for communities, insurers, and policymakers, to think strategically about wildfire risk mitigation.
